The connected resource can be a RES, an ESS, or a combination. The converter may be an AC-AC or DC-AC in terms of power conversion. The conversion type depends on the connected resources and integrated grid type and defines the main control parameters.
How do you choose an energy storage system?
In general, the choice of an ESS is based on the required power capability and time horizon (discharge duration). As a result, the type of service required in terms of energy density (very short, short, medium, and long-term storage capacity) and power density (small, medium, and large-scale) determine the energy storage needs .
What is a res intermediate converter?
As mentioned earlier, many inverter-based sources are connected to RES. Therefore, generally, the primary purpose of these intermediate converters is to transfer active power to the grid in Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) mode. This power transfer is monitored based on the requirements made by the network operators.

As it can be observed, an AC grid is mainly considered for converter integration. Besides, the battery, supercapacitor, and fuel cell (with hydrogen tank) are the most used storage systems.
