What is Ontario's energy storage system?
Ontario’s electricity grid is more than 90 per cent emissions free. Energy storage will allow the storage of baseload generation like nuclear and hydro, while also supporting the integration of intermittent resources like wind and solar.
What does OPG stand for?
This eastern Ontario project is a joint venture between Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and Northland Power, and is currently progressing through a gated approvals process managed by the Independent Electricity System Operator. The Project would have an average capacity of 400 MW for five hours, enough to power around 400,000 homes.

OHSWEKEN – The governments of Canada and Ontario are working together to build the largest battery storage project in in the country. The 250-megawatt (MW) Oneida Energy storage project is being developed in partnership with the Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation, Northland Power, NRStor and Aecon Group.
What's going on with OPG & Northland Power?
OPG and Northland Power kicked-off its public consultation in late 2022 with an open house at the Royal Canadian Legion in Marmora. The project has also been endorsed by several municipal councils and political leaders in the eastern region. Additional engagement activities are expected as project planning work continues.
