FAQs 6

What is HT distribution system?

The Primary Distribution System at HT level (11 or 33 kV) is used to reach the nearest point for a group of small number of consumers. The local consumers are then connected to the HT Distribution System at the point, through a small pole mounted transformer, used for supplying power to them through minimum length LT service lines.

Why should you use HVDS & Lt distribution systems?

LT distribution systems are easily accessible and prone to pilferage and the use of HVDS reduces the chances of theft of electricity to a very low level. Now-a-days, utilities are installing meters at the HT transformer itself to ascertain commercial losses on that particular transformer.

What is the difference between HT lines and LT lines?

The Faults on HT Lines are Far Less Compared to those of LT Lines. In order to avoid theft in LT lines from transformer to consumer premises, usually Aerial Bunched Cables (AB Cables) are used to supply power at LT to consumer from the distribution transformer. With AB Cables, the faults on LT lines are almost eliminated.

What is the difference between HT and Lt cables?

Trench shall always be kept away from drains and property lines ( specially for LT cables ). HT cable shall be closer to the kerb line instead of LT cables. Different trenches shall be used for different voltage levels. If extra space is not available then kept the lower voltage cable above the higher voltages.

Are HT & Lt losses based on time synchronization?

With the estimated energies and time synchronization of data, the estimated total HT and LT losses are found to be much different and appear reasonable. It is also found that the new method is effective only if the number of defective meters is limited within a certain range.

Why do we need to eliminate high losses in the transmission and distribution system?

In the context of the current chronic power shortage, the shooting prices of fuel and the need for conservation of available fossil fuel resources, you can well understand the urgency of eliminating high losses in the transmission and distribution system. The high percentage of losses in our country is a matter of national concern.
