What is form's multi-day battery?
Form’s multi-day battery will reform the global electricity system to run reliably and securely on low-cost clean energy. Form Energy was founded by energy storage veterans who came together in 2017 with a unified mission to reshape the global electric system by creating a new class of low-cost multi-day energy storage systems.
Does form have a battery?
Form is now running production trials at the factory. So although Form has significant orders from utility companies around the US, it has yet to fulfill any and deploy its batteries commercially. The company plans to ship its first deliveries to customers later this year.
Why should you use a form battery?
In addition to providing days of electricity during emergencies, Form’s batteries can help utilities deal with periods when the supply and demand of electricity aren’t evenly matched, dispensing power during heat waves and soaking it up during mild, sunny weather when solar plants generate more than the grid needs.

Form Energy's commercial product is a rechargeable iron-air battery capable of storing electricity for 100 hours at system costs competitive with legacy power plants.
How does a form battery work?
Form’s battery, in contrast, relies on iron and air. When discharging, iron within the battery’s cells reacts with oxygen to form iron oxides — better known as rust — in a process that releases energy. When recharging, the process is reversed, separating the iron and oxygen. The battery, in essence, breathes.
How many MW is a form energy battery system?
Depending on the system size, tens to hundreds of these power blocks will be connected to the electricity grid. For scale, in its least-dense configuration, a 1-megawatt system comprises half an acre of land. Higher-density configurations would achieve more than 3 MW per acre. This rendering shows a 56-MW Form Energy battery system.
